NARIMAN POINT MASTERPLAN
In collaboration with P.K.Das
Location : Nariman Point, Mumbai,
Client : INTACH
Project Status : Invited competition 2008
Plot Area : 1 acre
The objective was to image Nariman Point as an International Business District and to relate it to the city i.e. popularize Nariman Point. The heart of the planning concept is a ‘Central Avenue’ – a distinct elevated landscaped pedestrian walkway connecting Nariman point to churchgate station. On either end of the ‘Central Avenue’ we propose two iconic buildings – the ‘Business Gateway’ & the ‘Monument’. The ‘Business Gateway’ at the south end of the ‘Central Avenue’ is an International Business Center reflecting the success story of Indian banking, finance & business. At the north end of the avenue a ‘Monument’ depicting the success story of Indian democracy is proposed.
The proposal was to create a unified ‘Central park’. The road dividing the gardens is proposed to be elevated. An exclusive and distinct waterfront on the South side will have two purposes. One is to provide much required food courts and facilities for thousands who visit and work in Nariman Point and secondly to provide space for leisure and relaxation. Multilevel landscaped walkways, promenades and plazas will provide an interesting setting for social and cultural activities too.
We have included large car-parks at three locations. Inter-connectivity of various roads and accesses with an exclusive pedestrian network is proposed besides visual branding.
